Grow Greenmount Event to Attract Positive Attention, Restore Security Along Waverly Commercial Corridor

Following two murders occurring within 72 hours along Greenmount Avenue in Waverly, the local merchants' association is fighting back against claims that the neighborhood is unsafe.  Grow Greenmount will feature a sidewalk sale, live music, food, and giveaways from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.  Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Police Commissioner Frederick Bealefeld III, Fire Chief James Clack, City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young, and Northern District Police Commanders will lead attendees in a solidarity march along Greenmount Avenue at 2:00 p.m., beginning at Darker Than Blue Café at 3034 Greenmount Ave.

"Non-stop media coverage has painted a blighted picture of our beloved community," said Jermaine Johnson, Director of Community Economic Development at GHCC, in an email to community stakeholders.  "We know that north Baltimore is the best place to call home and...now more than ever, the merchants need your support." 

Johnson also highlighted recent successes in Waverly, many of which GHCC has supported or directly facilitated, including: over $630,000 in private and commercial investment for building improvements, seven new businesses opened along Greenmount Avenue, upcoming expansion of the Waverly Library, restoration of Firehouse #31, and the arrival of Waverly Ace Hardware.
